About NAMLS
Nepal Association for Medical Laboratory Sciences (NAMLS) is a non-governmental organisation established and registered at the Chief District Office (CDO), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of Nepal in May 1998 (2054 BS). An ad-hoc committee was formed under the leadership of Prof. Shyam Sundra Mall together with Prof. Bharat Jha, Prof. Nuchhe Ratana Tuladhar, Prof. Jeewan Bahadur Sherchand, Prof. Shiv Kumar Rai, Mr. JayBind Singh, Mr. Mahesh Kirati, and Prof. Dr. Keshav Parajuli to establish the NAMLS constitution and a new executive committee.
After nearly a year of groundwork, the first full executive committee was formed in the leadership of Prof. Bharat Jha, comprising positions including Treasurer, General Secretary, Secretary, and five central members. This marked the beginning of a formally structured national association dedicated to medical laboratory professionals across Nepal.
Since its founding, NAMLS has been working for the betterment of medical laboratory services and its professional members through continuous medical education (CME), national conferences, and policy advocacy. NAMLS is actively involved in committees of the Ministry of Health & Population related to medical laboratory services, including laboratory policy planning and curriculum development in universities and polytechnic institutes.
In 2010, NAMLS was recognised as a full member of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC) and the Asia Pacific Federation for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine (APFCB), cementing its place in the global laboratory medicine community. NAMLS continues its annual journal publication and remains committed to advancing quality standards in laboratory practice across Nepal.
