What We Do

NAMLS works on four core pillars to advance medical laboratory sciences in Nepal — from grassroots advocacy and professional education to international collaboration and quality improvement.

Professional Advocacy

NAMLS represents the professional rights and interests of medical laboratory scientists and technologists at every level of Nepal's healthcare system. We engage directly with the Ministry of Health & Population on laboratory policy, workforce planning, regulation, and service quality improvement.

  • Representation in MoHP committees on laboratory services
  • Advocacy for improved professional recognition and compensation
  • Input on laboratory legislation and regulatory frameworks
  • Engagement with national health policy planning processes

CME & Education

Continuing Medical Education is at the heart of what NAMLS does. We organise CME programmes, workshops, and national conferences that keep Nepal's laboratory professionals current with the latest advances in clinical laboratory science.

  • Annual and regional CME programmes across Nepal
  • National conferences on laboratory medicine
  • International workshops supported by IFCC and APFCB
  • Advocacy for medical laboratory science curricula in universities and polytechnics

Quality Standards

One of NAMLS's most critical mandates is raising awareness of quality control management systems across Nepal's clinical and diagnostic laboratories. Accurate, reproducible test results save lives — and NAMLS works to ensure every lab in Nepal meets that standard.

  • Quality control awareness programmes and workshops
  • Promotion of ISO and international accreditation standards
  • Support for external quality assessment schemes (EQA)
  • Guidelines on pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical best practices

International Collaboration

As a full member of IFCC and APFCB since 2010, NAMLS connects Nepal's laboratory professionals to the global scientific community. These partnerships bring international resources, expertise, and recognition to laboratories across Nepal.

  • Full member of IFCC — International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine
  • Full member of APFCB — Asia Pacific Federation for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine
  • Participation in IFCC Visiting Lecturer Programmes (VLP)
  • Regional congress participation and international networking
